The ORIGINS Project has been named as one of four The Kids-led cohort studies to receive a grant under a new funding program supported by the State Government’s Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund.
Announced by Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson this month, the four cohort studies are among seven to share in $2 million in funding through the FHRI Fund’s inaugural WA Cohort Studies-Operational Support Program (WACS-OSP).
The WACS-OSP aims to provide operational funding necessary for such studies to continue to contribute to the delivery of clinical outcomes, changes to health policy and translational health outcomes.
The ORIGINS Project will receive just under $500,000 in funding, to continue its work with Joondalup Health Campus to reduce the rising epidemic of non-communicable diseases through a ‘healthy start to life.’
The ORIGINS Project Director Professor Desiree Silva said it’s fantastic to receive funding from this program, which is an excellent step for cohort studies in WA.
“Having support from the State Government ensures that WA’s cohort studies are valued, and there will no doubt be so much discovery to come out of these research platforms,” Professor Silva said.
“It’s a huge step in the right direction for maintaining these cohorts, which are so important in understanding health and disease.”
“We are so proud of what ORIGINS has achieved so far and we are looking forward to the outcomes that follow as we enter into our next few years of the project.”
