ORIGINS fosters a strong supportive network for students joining the team.
Students can be involved directly with ORIGINS or one of the sub-projects.
ORIGINS has a number of research projects in development for students looking for project ideas. We can also link you to potential supervisors at The Kids Research Institute Australia and other research institutions.
Students can also volunteer with the project further or prior to their student placement with ORIGINS.
Opportunities for scholarships are available for students from ORIGINS.

The Flourishing Child PhD Student Awards
The ORIGINS PhD Student Award applications are open! We’re looking for a PhD student to join our sub-project, The Flourishing Child, with the successful applicant receiving $30,000 award to support their research.
The Flourishing Child is developing and testing a Flourishing Assessment and Pathway Tool to help parents identify and support their child's early development, addressing social, emotional, and neurodevelopmental challenges to reduce the growing number of children entering school with delays.
The successful applicant will assist with:
- An audit and gap analysis in existing evidence-based support programs for young Australian families
- Developing a prototype of the Flourishing Assessment
- Testing the Flourishing Assessment with parents in the ORIGINS cohort and early childhood professions
- Evaluating the Pathway Tool’s feasibility through a randomised trial, assessing usability, readability and functionality utilising the PEMAT framework
- Contributing to the final report by analysing participant confidence through questionnaires and focus group data

The ORIGINS Student Circle
The ORIGINS Student Circle was established in 2020 and invites all current, past and future students involved with ORIGINS or one of the sub-projects. The group offers an opportunity for students to network with the ORIGINS team and fellow students. Students may present and discuss their research, hear from members of the ORIGINS team and request and receive support from ORIGINS and their peers. Contact the Research team to find out how to join the ORIGINS Student Circle.
