The ORIGINS Project 5000 Families Report

The ORIGINS Project released a milestone document this week, celebrating our families.

5000 Families Report Title

The ORIGINS Project released a milestone report this week, celebrating our participant familes and outlining the impact of their contribution.

This landmark publication includes personal stories and experiences from our valued ORIGINS families and collaborators, alongside a comprehensive cohort profile of the first 5,000 families to join the project.

In 2017, the ORIGINS team embarked on the challenge of recruiting and following 10,000 families over a decade, collecting precious data and samples along the way, to create the rich resource of the ORIGINS Biobank and Databank.

Though we have now welcomed more than 6,500 families to date, this report celebrates a milestone for ORIGINS, as we reached the midway recruitment point of the project and had the opportunity to collate a broad data analysis on our first 5,000 families.

We look at some of the impact that the project has had so far, including the benefits of real-time feedback, which has helped many individual families involved in the project, looking for answers about their child’s health and development.

On a much larger scale, ORIGINS is placing WA on the map by continuing to provide the world with a platform for research. Our data and biological samples - more than 315,000 samples, linked to more than 14 million data points - are being used by researchers globally to identify and implement ways to reduce risks for children and to answer many questions about the development of chronic health conditions.

Our research is working to contribute to the global understanding of disease, influence policy and practice, build capacity and collaboration, and have a direct positive effect on the lives of children. We will achieve this with the help of our ORIGINS families, partners and collaborators.
