ORIGINS Project Co-Director nominated in the 2024 Western Australian of the Year Awards

Co-Director of The ORIGINS Project, Paediatrician and Researcher, Professor Desiree Silva, was announced as an official nominee for the 2024 Western Australian of the Year Awards this weekend.

The annual awards, recognise and celebrate outstanding contribution to our state by those born and bred in Western Australia, or those who have chosen to make Western Australia their home.

Desiree has been nominated as a finalist for the Professions category, one of seven, in recognition of her pioneering research into childhood development in Western Australia.

Professor Silva is Co-head of The ORIGINS Project at Joondalup Health Campus.

The ORIGINS Project was co-founded by Professor Silva in 2017, and is now Australia’s biggest study of its kind, which can be heavily attributed to her valued contribution.

Professor Silva is also known for her research and leadership around the benefits of community swimming pools in improving skin, eye and ear health for Aboriginal children, the benefits for children of interacting with nature, and improved ADHD care.

The awards will be held on Thursday, 30 May at the Crown Towers, where the winner of her category will be announced. We wish Desi the best of luck!
